17 January, 2010:
Talented middle distance
galloper Barlinnie has put aside recent bad luck to score a strong victory
in today's $100,000 Listed Sunshine Coast Cup (1400m) at Caloundra.
The Trevor Bailey prepared Barlinnie has been largely plagued by wet tracks
and wide barriers since being secured to race in Queensland.
Beautifully ridden today
by Glen Colless, Barlinnie overcome his wide alley to travel better than
midfield.
Travelling strongly into the straight, Colless secured a passage before
dashing Barlinnie away to record his third Queensland win.
Barlinnie was privately purchased and syndicated as a tried horse by Grant
Morgan of Ontrack Thoroughbreds.
Barlinnie had previously recorded black type for his Queensland owners in
winning the Listed $200,000 Doomben Stakes (1350m) at Doomben in December
2008.
Since being secured by his current group of owners, Barlinnie has had 13
starts for 3 wins and 2 seconds, earning prizemoney of over $240,000.
Today's win also maintains an unbeaten record for Barlinnie at the Sunshine
Coast track with two wins from as many outings.
